Nick and Nicole were here last week. One of the more soul refreshing, love lifting me higher kind of life perks I’m aware of. I’m so lucky to have people like them in my world. They were here for art fairs, and us, and attended the second of many “Outstandingly Terrific East Village Listening Parties.”

I wish I could have all the important people in my life at my house every Sunday to indulge in good food, good love, and one of the deepest jazz vinyl collections of anyone I know, but they can’t. Fortunately, most of that New York contingency was able to make it, and none of the names Devon called me out of vinyl envy were too bad.

It was a day simple dreams are made of. I want it all the time.

Thanks for coming, playing, listening, and loving, friends.

Your love really did, and really does, lift me higher.

It’s official, and made evident by a myriad of examples now. It really only takes one person to change your life. I’ve only known Mia for a few months, and she has seen me through ups, downs, sides, slides, chutes, ladders, and countless other things that really matter. And at some point in between, I somehow became appropirately positioned to be there for her too. Somewhere I’m glad to be, with someone that I will know and love for a very long time.

Multi faceted, multi talented, visceral, intellectual, provocatively poised, and living a life of love, laughter, forward motion, and Rock n’ Roll, Mia Swier is undoubtedly a powerful force. She’s graced these pages several times. My favorite so far was the video she quickly put together called Make It. This is the kind of action that orbits Mia, and this is the kind of motion I try and surround myself with.

She’s a talented young film maker, the bassist and lead singer in a budding rock band, and a stalwart for her friends and family. Even in downtimes, she is the up for so many. Also, this page really doesn’t do justice to her film chops or her big love. If you want even better examples, let me know. We’ll see what we can do. The longer, juicier stuff isn’t online, but by God does it exist. The film and the love.

I’m just excited to be a part of this journey with her, myself, and everyone we know.

Gil Scott Heron inspired me last night like no one has in a long time. Simple, refined, or not, guttural, and one of the more soulful people I’ve ever been a room with. He’s got the flow. He’s got the energy. What an amazing night.

I don’t know what I like more. Juan, or his art. I met the charming Argentinian outside of Ella on the Lower East Side. The one and only Anna Browne, a late great, addition to the ebb and flow of this inspiring New York tide, is producing his show. I’m absolutely enamored with both of them, and more on Anna to come, but first things first. Juan Dolhare’s paintings are striking.

From his concepts to his color schemes, Dolhare’s pieces resonate profoundly. “Variations on the Same Subject” opens Thursday, March 4th at 631 W 27th St, NYC, 6-8pm. I was lucky enough to stop in while they were installing for a sneak peak. I left buzzing.
