1. Mindful People. Mindful Things. Big Moves.

I’m lucky. I know it. And I’ve met some incredible people this past year of my life. One of the superstars that has made her presence felt, that will not relinquish her hold on my heart until it stops beating, is the one and only Julia Reagan.

A driven, talented film maker, a caring, sensitive friend, a horribly witty bastard, and a counterpoint to all the good that I try to cultivate in myself, Julia is more than movin and shakin.

Recently, she’s carved a niche for herself writing and helping run Mindful Media Collective, a “collective of filmmakers committed to creating social change by producing and distributing raw, humanistic and inspiring documentary films.”

Sounds good right? That’s because it is. Mindful Media Collective is pushing forward, bottom up, person to person network in an attempt to inspire dialogue, action, and response to mounting global issues.

This particular gushing segment is due to the current whereabouts of Ms. Reagan. Right now, she is in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she lived for several months in 2008. While there, she shot a documentary focusing on the racial profiling, stereotyping, and prejudice imposed on the population of Chinese immigrants in Buenos Aires. Markets owned by such immigrants have flourished, but despite their value to the struggling economy, negative stereotypes continue to pervade the cultural atmosphere, and a staggering cultural divide is being perpetuated.

“Argenchino” is a probe into this phenomenon and attempts to offer insight and specific objectivity to this story that reflects so many stories like it. Julia had her first screening of the film last week, and from what I hear, it was huge success. She even did her Q&A in two languages.
