Yesterday I was a part of something much greater than you, I, or anyone we know.
Strangers becoming friends. Loving. Hugging. Being blown away by some of the most talented musicians I know. Creating energy, not worrying about holding onto it. Just letting it go. Love coming together, showing itself as one, as it really is, in giant group of smiles.
Over 100 people were in my backyard yesterday, celebrating life, getting down for smiles. Ikebe Shakedown blew minds, and mamrazzi did what they do, making people move and sending them to a place they could only get to via the groove. The life of Squinty Don could not have been cherished more, and the energy of this group had to have been felt for miles around.
My highlight of the night was Tony Cortez, of ADM, stepped up to the mic and started chanting a verse. Mamarazzi picked up under him and laid down something perfect for him to improvise to. He flowed, cadence smooth and tight, rapping about love, light, and life. About Squinty and what they had, teaming up with with the flow of everyone in the band.
What really got me was the hook. The hook that came off the top of his head. The hook that everyone in the backyard was chanting as it got late and it got heavy. The hook that came from all our hearts and out of Tony’s flow.
“I’m glad we met. Travel well my friend. Love is life. And life never ends.”
Please. Perfection.
Yesterday was absolutely my definition of perfection.
This earlier in the evening, but a nice, if a little blurry, view from above with Ikebe blowin.
