It’s always such a pleasant surprise when going to support a friend turns into an event worth talking about. Directed by Marie Morrow, Memory of Forgetting was a flowing, lyrical, emotive experience. At times my hands, camera in tow, ended up slowly floating towards the floor as dancers Colleen Cintron and Marie Douesnard captured all of my focus.
Straddling dance and drama, much like the late, great Pina Bausch, Ms. Morrow aptly rode the fine line between choreography and spoken word. Not too on the nose, and not wildly avant garde, it was a performance that struck a communicative balance, and enchanted the standing room only audience at Work Gallery. If you’re in this city you should get to this. It’ll be good for you.
My first expedition into dance photography. Joao, Paula, these ones are for you.
