Starr street has never been more shiny. Bushwick and its residents are the subject of the artist Camille Perrottet’s latest project, the Starr St mural. The mural, which spans half a Brooklyn block, transformed a drab, cracking wall into a beautiful, sprawling art piece that is inspiring and ethereal.
The mural centers around a poem by Federico Garcia Lorca, a dreamy depiction of a beautiful Brooklyn, and a beautiful land, is paired with an incredibly illustrated set of eyes that themselves cover about 200 sq ft of wall. Also part of the mural is the requisite American flag requested by the shipping company that owns the wall. Camille was told that if she wanted to do a mural, it had to include an American flag somewhere. So she made a giant one, including flags from at least 20 different countries within it. That’s compromise, ladies and gentlemen.
With help from New York street artist, Optimo, tens of other talented individuals, one scaffolding, and a whole lot of heart, this mural is a welcome, peaceful, beautiful addition to the neighborhood. The always creating Perrottet and the impeccably talented optimo have truly outdone themselves.
