It’s not hard to impress me. I live to appreciate. It is difficult, however, to blow me away.
I’ve been following the art of Orly Genger for the past year or so at the suggestion and perpetual sharing of Mantiques Modern owner Steven Perelman.
I have to say, so far, I’ve been pretty continually blown away.
Her current, and my favorite works involve her knitting heavy gauge climbing rope together, forming large scale sculpture. The knitting, traditionally considered a feminine task, is presented in a very arduous and substantial form, voicing a contemporary response to the minimalist artists of the sixties.
Her pieces are beautiful, and the time and dedication Orly puts into her work is staggering. This is what it’s all about.
I wish I had the time to say all needed to be said, so see for yourself, and if given the opportunity, support Orly and anyone else perpetuating beauty in hard work.
