Art Fix. Pieter Hugo.
Been digging Pieter Hugo’s work for a long while. Friday’s are good for sharing. He’s a bad mofo that shoots bad mofos, and captures a little known reality in a beautifully particular way. Do yourself a favor and check his stuff out right here.

A Carioca in Rio.
Marina misses Brooklyn. What a nice image to wake up to. She was assisting her friend Josef on an editorial for a Brazilian publication. The theme was Carnaval. Looks like too much fun. And, for the record, Brooklyn misses her. So do I.

The Empress's New Coat.
Or, “A Silverlake Ambush.” Vija is one of my favorite humans, and one of my most intellectually thrilling friends. We’ve known each other for over a decade. The kid sister of a child hood friend who has quickly and appropriately earned childhood friend status, Vija makes me think, Vija makes me move, Vija makes me love. She is truly a gift to anyone she chooses to bestow...

Sunshine Superman.
From the ‘ol walk to work this morning. Fun things happen when light tries to travel through this city maze. From the side of a NYC sewage truck. With love.

Days like Today.
Make me miss Pacific Ocean sunsets like these. Santa Monica. 12/29/09.

Art Fix. This Guy.
Inspires me, depresses me, lights a fire under my ass, makes me want to quit photography, makes me want to master photoshop, and makes me want to throw my computer out a fourth story window. All at the same time. His portraits are absolutely stunning. He is SO good. From his “Stranger” Series: Chosen to be exhibited in the Art of Photography Show. Rightfully so. ...

Dwell On Your Dreams.
Take responsibility. It’s your world. THANK YOU Kelly Yahr. So many parallels to what I believe deep down. Energy follows thought. <3 Oh, and welcome back, Maluna.

Summerland.
I grew up in Summerland, CA, and this is one of several places I spent far too much time around as an adolescent. Other ones include, but are not limited to, Earl Warren Showgrounds, Del Mar, and locked in my room with Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA”. This photo was taken out front of Tinkers, my first job as a 14 year old. Happy Friday from Harper B.

What the World Needs Now...
Photo: Diana K. Garret. I haven’t known her long. In fact, I’ve only once met her personally, but she is sensationally inspiring. She sent me this image knowing I would love it. She was right. She has the good energy, the good eye, and the exceptional skill it requires to take concept to pristine execution. There is obvious and beautiful thought to every click of the shutter. Her...

Monday Monday.
Every Monday I’m a little pressed for time. Not unreasonably so, and completely by choice, but still, Mondays get a little tight. There’s a session at Kinshasa’s that I get to around 5 or 6. We play there for a few hours, then go to Apotheke to play more. For Kinchasa, it’s about 8 hours of straight playing, as he leads a theory class during the day. The professor goes all...

I've Got My Love to Keep me Warm.
It’s a good song. And a beautiful truth. Christmas Day 2k9. Tahoe. Way before the sun has come up. Still a long time before sunrise. I love this photo so much. Lily giving her mother, my sister Dana, a beautiful heart locket. Dad and Daughter watch the sun rise, finally, over and onto the mountains. Rockstar Shanegelina Jolie. Max. David, Dana, Lily, Family. More...

Surprise.
I was like a kid on Christmas. Only I’m a surly 26, and I was at a bar in Chinatown. The night sure didn’t start off with the bang it went out with. Nothing was going right. Our every Monday gig started around 9. Our trumpet player called me around 8:30 to cancel. No one else was picking up. We had nothing to go on. Something broke on the mixer, so we were having major sound issues....

The Big Picture.
Several times over the course of twenty ought nine, I posted work from the Boston Globe’s Big Picture. An inline showcase of news stories told entirely by photograph. And typically, extraordinary photograph. Continually one of my favorite things on the web, and one of the best things to come out of Boston since Sam Adams Lager, The Big Picture details the ups, downs, and sides to sides of...
