“I am my own God. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.” Charles Bukowski Dance.

Hit Me.
A great article urging President Obama to not skirt the issue of art and culture in his plan for our Nation’s economic recovery. Please read, and then sign the petition to light the fire under his ass. From Ashley Grand While doing so, you may listen to a funky beat, crafted in avery serious sit down meeting between Mr. Eric Herman and myself. When you click this link, there will be...

For Example:
Pauline Croze - “Baiser d’adieu” This is Pauline Croze. She has a great sound. Groovy, sweet, and funky, her music has got it going on. This video made me smile so hard yesterday. Such a great idea. Powerful, really well shot, super cute, and insanely cost effective. Cheers to having handfuls of attractive friends. ;) I was introduced by Eric Herman, the Modiba man himself....

A Snow Leopard.
In New York! I was humming “Hail to the Cheif” all day today. Sue me.

It's Like School's Out for Summer.
And it’s the dead of winter. Out with the old, in with the new, and there is an energy running up and down the East Coast. I’m sure the rest of the Nation is feeling it too. An amazing thing happened last night. A bar full of people poured out into the snowy streets and had a giant snowball fight. Every man for himself, sliding around, gloveless and hurling snowballs, ambushes,...

23.5°
Sitting here with Cole in the blustery cold of the city, I wait for the earth to tilt its 23.5° back to warmer days. Proof that the earth is a wobbly top and we’re all along for the ride. Thanks to Jason Lake for linking an amazing feat in photography. -Guest M.C. Carsonova on the keys

Take Time.
From an email I received from Mom this morning. Short and very sweet: A man sat at a metro station in  Washington, DC and started to play the violin. It was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. Three minutes went by...

Wow.
My friend Sven from Berlin sent me this link today. He said, “Check this out. It’s a somewhat less attractive, less talented version of you. But the energy is good.” All I could respond with was, “Sven, I love you, but if you ever call Gene Kelly a less attractive, less talented version of me again; after I blush, I will kill you.” No question about it in...

Thank you, Mr. Fleischer.
A few months ago, a good friend, formerly a commerical photographer, gave me two amazing cameras on a “permanent loan”. He doesn’t shoot anymore. They were just sitting in his closet. I was blown away. I haven’t cracked into the Rolleiflex yet, but the Leica and I have formed a nice bond. In mint condition and armed with an incredible lens, it takes beautiful photos. This...

Save Polaroid.
There is war raging, but this is an important battle. This digital age is turning as many people off as it is on. We have to remember our history, and perpetuate the goodness that is film. Particularly our savory friend Polaroid. Click through for more.

Art Fix '09.
First feature of the year is absolute insanity. The art of Li Wei is outrageously striking and rather unbelievable. Believe it. His work combines performance art and photography, creating mind-boggling illusions that are as innovative as they are stunning. I don’t know how he does it, and according to statements by Li Wei, there is no computer editing involved. Only carefully placed wires,...

City Slickers
Photos from the Leica from our recent trip to Joshua Tree. A bunch of city folk falling in love with a desert in the mountains. The geo thermal hot tub definitely helped. This is Nick Fahey. You know him. The jury’s still out, but he could very possibly be my hero.
